Where are these boards made?

We only sell 100% Australian timber boards. Our camphor laurel boards come from northern NSW and our Tassie boards come from – guess!

Why only timber boards?

Plastic is too soft and easily scarred which allows bacteria to breed. Glass and stone (like marble) are too hard and ruin your knives.

Will my board look like the web site image?

Each and every board we sell is unique. They come from different trees and will vary in colour and grain pattern.

No two natural boards will look exactly alike. That’s what makes them special and presumably that is why you chose not to buy a mass produced bamboo board in the first place.

Our Tassie boards are laminated and absolutely uniform in shape and size but the timber colour and grain pattern is unique to each board.

Our camphor laurel boards are cut from a single piece of sustainably harvested timber. They will vary slightly in size, shape and grain texture because the board is made to fit the timber, not the other way around.

We ask our supplier to specially select their best boards especially for you but it simply is not possible to photograph every variation.

Any boards which are substantially different in shape or size will come up on our Specials page looking for adoption.

If you would like a board “just like the one on the web site”, email us, and we will check our stock. We really want you to be “Delighted not Disappointed” .

The Tassie boards are ‘laminated”? Whats does laminated mean? Is it made of plastic like laminex?

“Laminated” refers to the method of construction where strips of wood are glued and clamped to produce a stripped appearance.

This is the standard method of making chopping boards where more than one timber is used.

It is a robust process which is very common.

“Laminated” simply means: “Composed of layers, bonded together”.

Why should I have my board branded?

Branding is a great way to personalise your new board. There’s nothing better if you are buying as a gift and it’s free.

Also branding means that you can use one side of your board just for cutting or chopping meat and the other non-branded side for everything else if you want to maximise your kitchen hygiene.

What happened to that beautiful camphor laurel smell?

All good things come to an end but happily fragrant camphor laurel timber is easily maintained and will stay with you through many years of hard work around the home.

The camphor laurel smell can be renewed with an occasional light sanding and the only maintenance these boards need is a light wipe with grapeseed oil about once a year.

How should I care for my board?

Wooden chopping boards are a miracle of nature, you should not expose any chopping board (especially laminated ones) to very hot water or caustic chemicals (dish washers).

Just wash your board in hot water and leave it to dry, standing up,  in a well ventilated spot in your kitchen and oil occasionally with grapeseed oil to maintain a brilliant surface.

Can you do custom sizes?

Yes, if you would like a bigger or smaller board than the popular sizes in our shopping page, we are happy to check with our suppliers who are very accommodating and can make to order.

Please email us with details of the size, type and shape of board and your location and we will come back to you with a quote for a custom made board shipped directly to you.

What about bench-tops and sink covers?

Well, that’s a different kettle of fish.

There are things that need to fit and things that need to fit “exactly”.

Our advice is that “built-ins” need to be inspected on site and measured by a professional. This is not the sort of thing to order over the phone or internet unless you like on-going arguements and great gaping holes in your cabinetry.

Consult a local kitchen supplier or cabinet maker.
